Fillers (Radiesse, Restylane, Juvederm, Voluma) and BOTOX Cosmetic
With a dizzying number of fillers on the market today we have chosen products that we feel are very safe and consistently give excellent results. Restylane® is a hyaluronic acid (HA) filler that is known for it’s “soft” characteristics. Restylane® can be used in the lips and in more superficial wrinkles without as much risk of lumpiness. Juvederm® is a hyaluronic acid filler that has more substance that Restylane®. This is better for treating deeper wrinkles such as the smile lines (nasolabial folds). Radiesse® is a filler made from suspended hydroxylapatite particles. This filler gives longer lasting results than the HA fillers and is best for treatment of nasolabial folds, jowls, and cheek augmentation. Voluma® is designed for long-lasting cheek augmentation.
We offer Latisse® the best treatment for healthier, fuller eyelashes.
Radiesse® is a volumizing filler. Fillers can be very effective at minimizing wrinkles and augmenting areas in the face that havelost volume, and deflated with age (e.g. the cheeks). There are numerous fillers on the market these days, each with particular strengths and weaknesses, and the choice of a filler should be targeted to each patient’s individual concerns.
Radiesse® is made from suspend hydroxylapatite particles. Hydroxylapatite is a natural occurring mineral form of calcium apatitie that makes up 50% of the bone in our body. Because it is a naturally occurring compound it is biocompatible andnon-allergenic. These small particles are suspended in a gel and mixed with anesthetic prior to injection.
Radiesse® acts as a volumizing filler to provide a scaffold structure under the skin, essentially adding volume to pushing up wrinkles from beneath the skin. Radiesse® also promotes the production of the bodies own collagen. This natural growth of collagen seems to extend the effects of Radiesse® beyond hyaluronic acid fillers. It is best used in the smile lines (nasolabial folds), the corners of the mouth, the marionette lines, and at the angle of the jaw to soften the jowls. It also works wonderfully to augment the cheeks and diminish wrinkles in the lower eyelids.
Restylane® is a safe, volumizing filler made from hyaluronicacid. It is the most popular filler product in the World. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar found throughout the body. Hyaluronic acid is very good at attracting water and hence serves as an excellent filler material. Hyaluronic acid is slowly broken down by natural enzymes in the body.
Restylane® is known for being a soft filler. It is an excellent material for filling the lips and creating more voluptuous and defined lips. It helps restore volume and lift wrinkles and depressions. It can be used in the corners of the mouth, the nasolabial folds (smile lines), chin, cheeks, under the eyes and in the brow.
Restylane® lasts for 3-6 months in the lips and 6-9 months in other areas of the face.
Juvederm® is a safe, volumizing filler made from hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar found throughout the body and it is synthetically manufactured to make many of the filler products on the market today. Hyaluronic acid fillers are typically processed in different ways to give each filler particular handling characteristics.
Juvederm® Ultra and Ultra Plus are known for being more robust fillers than Restylane®. These fillers can be used in moderate to deep lines in the face or used to enhance the lip line. It can be used in the corners of the mouth, the nasolabial folds (smile lines), chin, cheeks, under the eyes and in the brow.
Juvederm® lasts for 3-6 months in the lips and 6-9 months in other areas of the face.
Voluma®is a safe, volumizing filler made from hyaluronic acid. Voluma is was designed to provide greater and longer lasting filling than previous hyaluronic acid fillers. It was designed to be placed deep in the cheeks, augmenting the cheeks and improving the appearance of the lower eyelid.
Voluma® lasts for up to 2 years in the cheeks.
Botox® has a long record for being safe, effective and providing high patient satisfaction. The discovery of Botox® to improve facial wrinkles was, like many breakthrough medicines (Viagra® and Rogaine®), an accident. Botulinium toxin is a powerful neurotoxin that was originally used by ophthalmologists to treat crossed eyes. Dr. Carruthers, an ophthalmologist, started using the toxin to treat patients with a conditionknown as blepharospasm. These patient’s have frequent and uncontrollable forceful closure of the eyelids. When patients were injected with small amounts of the toxin their blepharospam improved and serendipitously their forehead wrinkles started disappearing. A few years later Botox® cosmetic was born.
The current Botox® formulation is a highly purified form of botulinum toxin. This medicine inhibits the transmission of information from nerves to muscles, essentially blocking the ability of muscles to function. The effects of the toxin are not permanent and resolve within 3 months.
When used in the face, particularly around the eyes and in the forehead, Botox® can eliminate facial wrinkles. These “dynamic wrinkles” are the result of contraction of the muscles over many years creating wrinkles in the overlying skin. When we scrunch up our forehead, squint or narrow our eyes we are continually adding to the deepness of the wrinkles. When Botox® is used to weaken the contraction of the muscles in these areas the wrinkles start to disappear.
Botox® is most frequently used in the glabella (the area above the nose between the eyebrows), the forehead, and around the outside of theeyes (the crows feet). Weakening of the muscles in these areas can beaccomplished with little risk of complication or over treatment. Unfortunately Botox® doesn’t last forever and patients will need to be retreated at intervals of 3-6 months to get the best effect but most patients find the procedure easy to tolerate and very effective.
