ICLs — Implantable Contact Lenses

Finally, an option for people that can't have LASIK or PRK surgery is now available. In the past, many people have been disappointed to learn LASIK or PRK surgery aren't options due to thin corneas or very high levels of myopia (nearsightedness) beyond the limits ofLASIK or PRK.

Implantable contact lenses are FDA approved option for vision correction. It's a simple procedure performed on an outpatient basis. These implants, which resemble contact lenses, are placed between the clear front covering of the eye (cornea) and just behind the iris. Unlike LASIK or PRK, with the ICL there is no surgery performed on the cornea and so the ICL is a great option in cases where surgery on the cornea should be avoided. Please note that when performing an ICL procedure, your natural lens (which is where cataracts develop) is not removed. The procedure takes 15 minutes and is done using topical anesthesia. Typically, patients can see an improvement within a few minutes after the procedure.

Find out if implantable contact lenses are right for you. Call us today for a free evaluation and consultation with your surgeon at 303.273.8761.
