LASIK eye surgery in Denver is a very popular refractive procedure that has provided excellent vision for many patients. LASIK is one of the most popular vision correction procedures for Denver LASIK surgeons. Current day LASIK eye surgery combines the precision of an excimer laser with the benefit of a femtosecond laser.
Please note that Denver Eye Surgeons provides every type of LASIK eye surgery including blade-free LASIK done with the IntraLase femtosecond laser and Custom LASIK using wavefront optimized technology done with the ALLEGRETTO WAVE excimer laser.
We do offer microkeratome blade LASIK, but we highly encourage the use of all-laser LASIK because of better and safer outcomes. Our LASIK doctors will help you determine which type of LASIK surgery is right for you.
What Does LASIK Fix?
LASIK corrects vision by changing the shape of the cornea utilizing an excimer laser. We are capable of treating nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. The laser sculpts your cornea based upon your individual prescription and a unique map of your eyes.
The LASIK Procedure
The process of LASIK surgery is accomplished in a two short steps. A local anesthetic is applied to the eyes so that your procedure is pain free. Then, a thin flap is carefully created on the cornea (the front dome of the eye) using femtosecond technology with the IntraLase laser. The average femtosecond laser treatment takes only 20 seconds. The flap is pulled back to prepare your cornea for the excimer laser. If you are having PRK instead, this flap is not created. Instead, the surface cells are taken off.
Second, a cool ultraviolet light beam produced by the ALLEGRETTO WAVE excimer laser is applied removing tiny portions of the cornea in an effort to reshape it. Each pulse of the laser removes approximately 0.25 microns of corneal tissue. By comparison, the diameter of a human hair is about 50 microns. Because the laser used in LASIK surgery removes corneal matter in such small increments, extreme precision is achieved in the process. Once the cornea is corrected, the flap is replaced and the procedure is complete. The average excimer laser treatment takes only 7 seconds.
Following LASIK surgery, patients usually experience a rapid recovery in vision. Most of our patients are able to drive themselves back to our facility the day following their surgery to meet with their LASIK eye doctor for their follow-up appointment. Patients are seen by their doctor at the 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, and 3 month postoperative visits.
Our LASIK Technology
We pride ourselves in having the best LASIK technology and equipment at Denver Eye Surgeons. Patients can rest assured that we have the latest and best technology for their procedure.
The IntraLase femtosecond laser is considered one of the best lasers to create a precise flap giving patients the advantages of blade-less and blade-free technology.
The ALLEGRETTO WAVE Eye Q excimer Laser is the cutting edge in laser vision technology because each procedure is customized, fast, safe, and precise. The eye tracker is very efficient in keeping the treatment centered.
Prior to surgery, a patient has special maps that determine the uniqueness of each patient's eye. Topographical maps are used to determine the steepness of the cornea. This allows the ALLEGRETTO WAVE excimer Laser to apply a beam to a specific pattern unique to each eye giving you a wavefront optimized treament.
Applying this cutting edge technology, we can achieve excellent results in reducing your myopia, hyperopia, and/or astigmatism as well as retaining your quality of vision without negatively affecting sharpness, contrast sensitivity, depth perception, and night vision.

What to Expect at Your LASIK Consultation
You will meet your surgeon who will examine your eyes and review your test results with you in detail. The main tests include manifest refraction, pupil size measurement, corneal slit lamp evaluation, and topographical maps which reveal the corneal shape and corneal thickness.
These tests help the surgeon determine your candidacy for LASIK surgery. If you are not a candidate for LASIK, you may still be a candidate for PRK, clear lens exchange with intraocular lenses (IOLs), or implantable contact lenses (ICLs). It may be possible that you are not a good candidate for any of these procedures, and your surgeon will inform you accordingly.
After your LASIK evaluation, you will meet with our LASIK coordinator who will further discuss the examination findings and help schedule your surgery if you are interested. If LASIK cost is an issue for you, we have many different financing options, which can also be discussed with you at your consultation.
